Michael Sergi – Head Instructor

Michael Sergi has studied the art of Gracie / Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for more than a decade and is a certified 2nd degree brown belt under UFC vet, ADCC Absolute Champion, and Mundial Champion Roberto Traven. Sergi has traveled the country seeking to train with some of the best and most recognized names in BJJ. He holds a Level II certification in Modern Army Combatives through the United States Army where he has had the fortune of preparing soldiers for combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Sergi is also a contributing writer for BJJ Legends Magazine having wrote multiple articles on the art of BJJ and interviewed some of the best competitors and practitioners in the world. Michael is owner and head instructor of Serg BJJ / Team Roberto Traven located in Savannah Georgia.

Sergi considers himself a student first and continuously seeks to gain more knowledge by frequently attending and hosting seminars with the most accomplished competitors and instructors in the world. Michael’s enthusiasm and progression in BJJ can be attributed to his master and good friend, Roberto Traven, mentor and good friends Kid Peligro and Daniel Moraes, and his students.

Away from jiu-jitsu Sergi works at the collegiate level as a cross country, track, and strength and conditioning coach where he has coached numerous all-conference runners and national competitors.

Roberto Traven – Head Instructor of Team Roberto Traven

Roberto Traven was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He first started training BJJ when he was 16-years-old. Traven received his black belt after four years of hard training that included going to class 3 times a day Monday-Friday and at least once on Saturday and Sunday. The UFC vet holds a 6th degree black belt in the gentle art and is considered by many to be one of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu coaches in the world. He currently trains many UFC, WEC, and elite MMA fighters.

Traven has won many titles in international gi and no-gi competitions. He is a two time Mundial Champion and has won gold in the Pan-Ams. Competing in the most prestigious grappling event in the world Traven is one of a very small group of practitioners to ever win the Abu-Dhabi Absolute Division having accomplished the feat in 1999. He is an accomplished MMA fighter with experience in the UFC, Rings of Japan, Warriors in Australia and the Russian Absolute Fighting Championship. His dedication and commitment are impressive creating a striking character in developing his students ability to be the best competitors and instructors that they can be. Master Traven currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia and teaches out of Unit 2 Fitness – Team Traven headquarters. He makes multiple trips to Savannah each year to visit and teach at Serg BJJ.
